Pudupet is located in Central Chennai surrounded by many famous historical places. It is famous for automobile accessories and electronic market. Majority of people in this place are Muslims. It is one of the oldest Shia localities of Chennai and it is renowned for its 7th Muharram Juloos/Procession which is happening since centuries. Recently the old Shia Masjid was reconstructed, the name of the Masjid is yet to be decided and however it is still known as Begum Bazaar Masjid. This Masjid is attached with an Aashurkhana (Imambada). There are five more Aashurkhaanas in the vicinity of the Masjid. The Youths of this locality are deeply involved in many religious and social activities along with Chennai Shia Youth (CSY).
