Anjuman e Hussainy is based in Royapettah and it is famous for its Religious and Charitable activities. Apart from that there are numerous Idaares (Committees) contributing their part. PHL Library and Moula Ali Cassette Centre contributes its services to the Shia Community. Words are insufficient to praise the People and Environment of Royapettah.

Royapettah holds the majority of Shia Population in Chennai. The Youths from Royapettah are very active in Islamic activities the whole year especially during Ramazan and Muharram. There is an Imam Baargah which is attached to the Masjid and it is called as "Chota Naksha". One can notice lively environment in Royapettah during Muharram. Moulana Hayat Naqvi Sahib is the Imam e Jamaat of Masjid e Hussainy.
Aashura is commemorated worldwide, mourning for the martyrdom of Hussain ibn Ali (as), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (sawaws) at the Battle of Karbala on 10 Muharram in the year 61 AH. The procession (Juloos) is also taken place in Chennai. The Aashura procession (Juloos) is taken from Royapettah to Thousand Lights Masjid on 10th of Muharram and Arbaeen Procession (Juloos) is taken on 20th Safar every year. |
